Special Issue on Architecture & Design for Application Agility

The current extremely dynamic, competitive, and global business environment has dramatically increased the rate of change in businesses resulting in mergers and acquisitions, building of alliances, increased pace of product and service development, and marketing innovation.
Unfortunately, in this environment IT is often looked upon more often as a road block than the enabler of change. One of the major reasons for this is the slow pace and high cost of integrating and changing IT applications. These problems are inherently rooted in the way IT applications are architected and designed.

Advances in component based development (CBD), Web Services technologies, and the concepts like Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) are significantly impacting the whole paradigm of application development. These technologies and concepts have significantly improved the interoperability at hardware, operating system, development language, and data levels. This allows radically different approaches and business models to be used for application architecture, design, and development. Started as a cost effective approach for integrating intra-firm and inter-firm applications, service oriented architecture is increasingly becoming an approach for architecting and developing applications.

In spite of the significant interest in the business community in architecting and designing applications for agility, the processes and methodologies for designing, architecting and developing such applications are in their infancy. Numerous interesting research issues related to application agility definitions, agility measurement, agile application development approaches, design models, project team organization, communication within and across project teams, and governance needs to be addressed. This special issue will foster research in this important area of application development. Possible research topics for this special issue include (but not limited to):

- Application agility definition.
- Identification of variables in application agility and their measurement.
- Determining business value of agile applications.
- Service oriented application development (i.e., issues in service fabrication and application assembly).
- Service reuse in developing applications and its impact on agility. - Cost estimation for agile service-based projects.
- Measuring quality of agile service-based applications.
- Service-based reuse metrics.
- Reliability and maintenance of agile service-based solutions.
- Configuration management (i.e., versioning) of services and service-based applications.
- Requirements analysis for agile service based applications.
- Technical interoperability Standards.
- Agile business process support using services.

Paper Format
Each page should have 1-inch margin on top, bottom, right and left. Font size must be set to 12 and font type must be Times New Roman. First page should contain the title, abstract, and keywords. This first page should not be numbered. Abstract should be less than 200 words. List 2-6 keywords representing your research below the abstract. Each subsequent page should be numbered starting with 2. These pages should be double spaced. Maximum page length is 30 pages including figures and tables, but excluding references. For reference styles, see the following link posted on Information Technology and Management (journal) - Select "Instructions for Authors."

To categorize the paper for the special issue, when uploading the paper please be sure to select Article Type: SI on Arch. & Design for Appl. Agility. All papers will be reviewed by 2-3 expert reviewers, guest editors and editor in chief.
