04/01/2006: "April Fool's"

I took a couple of days away from Newcastle towards the end of this week mainly to sort out personal business. On friday afternoon i found myself in the middle of the Bastille demonstrations as I was heading for an esresso just opposite the opera. Hundrends of students were protesting about the CPE law and dozens of police men were on the streets trying to control the crowds; although the protest was in all peaceful. It reminded me of my years in school and the demonstrations we used to get involved. Anyway I'm briefly in London on Sunday and I got tickets to see a play adaptation of the book "one flew over cuckoo's nest" with Christian Slater. I remember seeing him on Broadway this time last year along with Jessica Lang. He is doing a 10 week run of the play (i understand it also run for a brief period last year). I also got a chance to see the film V for Vendeta which is a screen adaptation of an Alan Moore comic. It was really captivating and unlike the last Alan Moore comic adaptation which was really childish (League of extraordinatry Gentleman) this one really did justice to the original story. Nobody has played any April fool jokes on me today but its only early.
