Publication

My colleague Jake took the lead in updating an older paper we wrote about a year ago, and had it accepted for presentation and publication at this conference. The tentative reference of the paper follows. Drop me a line for electronic copies.

Wu, J., Periorellis P., Evaluation of Security Mechanisms for Virtual Organizations, Trust in E-Systems and the Grid - Workshop, In conjunction with the 15th International Conference on Conceptual Structures and International Conference in Organisational Semiotics, Sheffield, UK, July 22nd 2007

Shame the place is not as exotic as the title of the conference smile

Bpel Seminar

I am heading back to NCL today having spend the last 2 days at a really bad BPEL seminar here in Edinburgh. Man what a waste of time...still, i came to conclude that if you really want to learn something all you need is solitude, a good book, a two-litre bottle of cider and an 80's mix tape.

off to get the train....

Book In Production

I am very happy to announce that the book I have been researching, writing and editing for the last 18 months in finally in production. I had some great contributions from academia and industry and I am sure with the right "marketing tools" it will reach the right audience.

Editing this book is the outcome of several years of research and publishing in the areas of dependability and security which are both fields of high importance that are constantly expanding. The application domain is that of Web Services and my most recent work has been targeted towards making sense of the standards and specifications available in this new arena, while at the same time providing security solution for various distributed applications.

There have been more than 30 standards and specifications proposed to address security issues and provide mechanisms for authorization, authentication, confidentiality, integrity and non-repudiation. Each of these proposed specifications span across a number of security and dependability related issues. However, despite such a large number of specifications, there appears to be no clear consensus regarding the overall architectural framework. This book is a contribution towards this need.

I received a large number of proposals which consequently resulted in large number of potential chapters. I conducted a highly skilled reviewing team composed largely of fellow academics and IT professionals that helped me through the selection process and eventually narrow it down to the 15 chapters included in the book plus some selected readings agreed between myself and the publisher. Will let you know when it is formally out...i.e. on Amazon.

Thanks to Andy G. from Microsoft for providing the foreword, and to Lynley L. and Meg S. for their assistance.

Easter Week

I took a month off from my blogging activities and as such I have gathered a lot of material worthy of publication. I will add a few entries today and save some for later. I have been travelling quite a bit having visited Edinburgh a couple of times and Paris. I went to Edinburgh to particiapte in the All Hands Meeting that hosted a series of lectures from new eScience pilot programs. I particularly enjoyed the talk of David Chadwick with whom I had a chance to meet and catch up, as well as the talk on the new Message project that aims to utilise the GRID in order to resolve traffic jam issues in London. All talks are available online. On the 31st of March I travelled to Paris ( as I'd done last year on the same dates) where I stayed in Bastille and caught up with my sister. We spend the weekend visiting some of the sites of Paris and generally wondering around. It was good and time flew quickly.

a day later the rest of teh famiglia came over to Newcastle. So, I spent Easter with my brother and his fiancee. We had a blast visiting all the sites of Newcastle and neighboring cities. On Easter Sunday we had a meal at the Greek restaurant in South Sheilds along with other Greek friends that had to spend Easter in the UK for some reason or other. They also managed to pursuade me to go to church, something I hadn't done in years; probably since I was 17.

Coming back to work this week was hard after all the lazying around, but the OGF is just in a couple of weeks time and i have to deliver and impress my colleagues at MS, but more about that later...speak soon...
